From 13.-23. October 2017, four Angewandte students followed Zhou Bins invitation to participate in the 5th Up-On International Live Art Festival in Chengdu/China. Nicoleta Auersperg, Michael Pöllinger (both TransArts), Lala Nomada (Art & Science) and Tomasz Vollmann (Transmedia Art) showed their performances among 30 other artists from China and abroad. The performance artists, modern dancers, sound artists and image artists presented their works at the Art Museum of Sichuan University, School of Architecture and Design College of Southwest Jiaotong University, Luxe Lakes A4 Art Museum and JZFZ Art Space.

Lala Nomada’s performance with coal was based on research about the local social situation in Chengdu as well as on her thoughts about the Lushan Art Museum`s collection.

Nicoleta Auersperg is experimenting and reflecting on materials, processes and mechanism which constitute our everyday life. Of interest are materials with the potential to change their status and form when they come in contact with other materials. The artist transfers this potential in sculptural/performative forms. In Chengdu, she showed the performance „Reifen, Stäbe, Gips und Wasser“.

Performer Michael Pöllinger carried out a thought experiment: Supposed he woke up and realised he had the mission to be the first natural human being, using the power of his organism and the natural phenomenon art to show a new, different movement of transhumanity in a crazy performance.
